The Geological Sciences Department offers the opportunity for students majoring in disciplines other than Geology to receive recognition for having completed at least 33 quarter units of study in the Geological Sciences. The program serves to enhance a student's employment opportunities in a chosen profession or to simply provide formal recognition of an interest in the physical world. The minor would be particularly useful to anyone living or working in geologically active California.
A minor in Geology could be especially advantageous to students majoring in such fields as Biology, Agriculture, Park Administration, Civil Engineering, Geography, Soil Science, as well as those in the College of Environmental Design. With such a minor, students benefit from a broader foundation of knowledge upon which to base important decisions or gain special training in a field associated with your chosen major. For those students interested in Science Education, a Geosciences minor would broaden the range of teaching specialties.
To receive formal recognition for work toward a minor, the student must have on file in the Records Office a MINOR DEGREE REQUIREMENTS form. This form identified those courses planned to go toward credit for the minor. This collection of classes must be agreed upon between the student and a Geological Sciences Department professor.
