ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This web site and the research projects, field trips, and teaching activities illustrated therein would not have been possible without the encouragement, support, and understanding of my wife , Phyllis.  Over the years, Phyllis has been a welcome companion on numerous hikes in the mountains and desert, and has provided fresh ideas for grant proposals and teaching methodologies.  The site has benefited greatly from her artistic influence.

Pictured below is our faithful and devoted cat, Scruffy, who passed away in 2003 at age 16.  Scruffy would invariably greet us in the morning (expecting breakfast) and "guard" the back yard at night from intruding raccoons .  Scruffy has been replaced by Smokey, somewhat more aloof, but very affectionate.  Smokey likes to roam the neighborhood and climb onto nearby rooftops to watch people and cool off in the breeze.  He usually comes around for a breakfast of Kibbles and cream, and rarely misses his Fancy Feast dinner.

Phyllis overlooks Navajo rug at Mom's house in Borrego Springs.
